The Wife Who Ran Away by Tess Stimson
Release Date:19 Jan 2012
For the outside world it seems like Kate Forrest has the perfect life. Her husband Ned, two grown up teens, and a good job. But the inside is different; Kate feels like she is invisible to her husband. He doesn’t pay attention to the things that are important to her, he only seems busy with his job and with gambling. One day Kate reads about a woman who suddenly leaves everything behind and runs away to somewhere just to escape it all. And then she realizes that it is enough for her too, she is sick of her husband, sick of her depending mother who constantly calls her and sick of her career. And that’s why she steps on a plane to a friend who lives in Italy. At home no one notices at firsthand she has left. Not even Ned, who thinks she is just caught up with work. But when Kate’s boss calls and tells Ned she hasn’t been at work the whole week, he starts to realize something is very wrong. Their kids Agness and Guy don’t know where mom is. But then comes out that Guy is horribly bullied at school and the bullies are posting dead threats to him on the internet. The situation gets so out of hand that Kate has to go back and has to choose between her past and her future.
I loved how this book was written, The chapters alternate in character, so you can see the story from the points of view of Kate, Ned, Guy, Agness and Kate’s mother. What I also liked was the whole plot, which got really thrilling at the end. It seems so easy to run away and leave your family and your whole life behind but this book shows it isn’t. I think Kate was an interesting main character and very well developed by the author. This was just a thrilling story about a family which suddenly finds the ground beneath them shaking. Highly entertaining page turner!
